The Art steeplechase
“The Art’s Steeplechase” [click here for a link] is a participatory project that includes recorded conversations with other artists about obstacles they face, as well as a street game (which can also be played indoors). The project aims to share the experience of the difficulties and survival strategies socially engaged artists, not part of the commercial scene, are facing in sustaining themselves and their practice. The workshop was delivered in the past as part of The Social Art Network [UK] assembly hosted by the Socially Engaged Art Salon in Brighton and as part of an artist residency of the collective Social Conversations / Social Circle at Phoenix art studios & Gallery, Brighton.
The Art Steeplechase was developed from a previous project with migrant grandparents and their grandchildren, which you can view here.
